Louisiana Deputy Saves Teen’s Life After Girl Starts Turning Blue
(99.9 KTDY) - An off-duty Louisiana deputy is being hailed as a hero after he was able to assist a young woman who could not breathe. It was not something he wanted attention for, but someone in the department shared the incredible story.
Sergeant Mike Hoover of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office was at a sporting event in Livingston Parish earlier this month when someone needed help. He and another person sprang into action.

Hoover noticed a 19-year-old woman who looked panicked. As people watched, the woman collapsed to her knees while clutching her throat, and she was turning blue. It was a terrible scene.
The detective, along with another parent, ran over to the young woman, and Hoover began to pound on her back, hoping to dislodge whatever was blocking the air to her lungs.
When that didn't work, Hoover tried another move that he had learned through his training over the years, and he started abdominal thrusts, or as we know it, the Heimlich maneuver.
This story has a happy ending, as the abdominal thrusting worked, and what was blocking the young woman's airway came out, and the 19-year-old was able to breathe again.

Hoover told no one at work about what happened, but someone ended up sharing the story with others at the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, and that's how the story came to light.
It's great to be able to report on good news, and the young woman was saved because Hoover and another parent stepped in to help. A huge "thank you" to Sergeant Hoover for letting his training guide him, so this young woman was saved.
