Black Bear in Louisiana Retreats to Tree As Flood Waters Rise
(KTDY) - Parts of Central Louisiana are still recovering from a record flood after Tropical Storm Arthur dropped close to 30 inches of rain in some parts of the state.
Hundreds of homes were flooded, and high-water rescues were underway in places like Avoyelles Parish, but sadly, that water is now moving south.
Parts of St. Landry Parish are now flooding as water begins to drain south, and with it, some people are on the move, seeking higher ground. As we previously reported, a nursing home in Palmetto was evacuated a few days ago after officials feared the facility's property could flood as water moved through the area.
Well, as people move to higher ground, wildlife is seeking refuge as well. We have seen videos of deer and pigs swimming in flooded waters, and now we have a video of another animal retreating to safety.
Mark Majors posted a video on social media from the Melville area, and in the video, you see a black bear way up in a tree. The bear seems very relaxed as it avoids the rising water, and sadly, this probably isn't the only wild animal attempting to escape it.
We don't know if the bear is still up in the tree, but water does continue to rise in some parts of Central Louisiana as other areas begin to dry out.
