Black Bear in Louisiana Circles Home, Then Retreats to Tree For Safety
Black bears are everywhere in Louisiana, so much so that the state has brought back the black bear hunting season to help get the bear population back under control in the "Bayou State."
In recent years, we've seen bears in various parts of the state, but I can't recall ever seeing a bear so close to a house, and then retreating to a tree.
A huge bear was seen circling a house, and at one point, it walked across the porch of the house, with little to no fear.
The two men on an ATV follow the bear around the house, and as they slowly approach it, you can see the bear run towards a tree, and then retreat into it for safety. This video is just another great reminder to always be aware of your surroundings, as more and more wildlife are on the move.
If you see a black bear in your area, you are encouraged to notify authorities with the Louisiana Wildlife & Fisheries.
How to Keep Bears Off Property
One thing you can do to keep bears away from your property is to always keep garbage in a closed container. Garbage that is out in the open can be 'bait" for bears as they are always looking for a food source.
When Is Black Bear Hunting Season in Louisiana
The 2025 black bear hunting season starts on December 6 and goes through December 21, 2025. All hunters who wish to participate in the season must apply for a permit with the state of Louisiana.
