Every morning, I browse the internet while having my coffee. This morning, I stumbled on something that caught me by surprise. It was an article, from time.com,  saying we should keep things in our refrigerator that most of us don't. Peanut butter, for instance. I've always kept mine in the cabinet. Refrigeration apparently helps preserve the monosaturated ("healthy") fats. Maple Syrup didn't come as a surprise. I was born & raised in an area where a lot of it's made locally. Maple Syrup, unlike honey, will spoil. If honey gets moldy, you can just scrape it off the top & everything's fine. If maple syrup gets moldy, toss it. Once ketchup is opened, its acidity inhibits bacteria growth for a month, maximum. I've always kept mine in the fridge, anyway. Red wine? It apparently oxidizes pretty quickly. Don't keep an open bottle around for more than 3-4 days. Oh, you want me to finish it off?? Well, if you insist! It seems to me, each trip to the grocery store costs more than the last. Throwing away spoiled food makes me feel like I'm throwing money away.
