Abbeville Police says, via a press release, one person has been arrested for allegedly being the person responsible for the shooting death of James Joseph Jr. on April 9.

Lt. Jonathan Touchet says that they have booked 32-year-old Abbevile man Jacolby Nunez on a charge of First Degree Murder for the death of Joseph. The man was shot to death at around 9:30 that morning in the 900 block of East Lafayette Street..

Officials say Nunez was already in jail on some unrelated charges when they were able to serve him the warrant for his arrest Wednesday. His other charges are for Home Invasion and Simple Burglary. He is still incarcerated in the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center, and Touchet says their investigation continues. He added that more arrests, in this case, are possible.

Another person was arrested previously in connection with this case. They previously arrested Jordan Tyler Matthews of Abbeville on a charge of Principle to Second Degree Murder. Matthews was found by Lafayette Police Department officers, booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center, and he was then transferred to Abbeville.

According to Touchet, Chief of Police Bill Spearman reminds people that at any time, they can give information anonymously about any crime that has happened. He says there are several ways to accomplish this. Abbeville has a "tips line", and you can reach it by dialing 337-892-6777. Another way to give information is by using what they call their TIP411 system by visiting their Facebook page. You can also go to the Abbeville Police Department's "Submit a Tip" tab on their website. Another option is by using the Abbeville Police Department's app which can be downloaded in app store or via Google Play.
