Watch for Marijuana Edibles Packaged to Look Like Popular Candy
Indiana State Police posted a warning on their Facebook page that there is a possibility of marijuana edibles being in Halloween candy. If you plan on letting your children go trick-or-treating, check their bags before they eat the treats.
ISP says that several versions of edible marijuana have been both packaged and marketed to look exactly like candy. This is scary. How this happens, I have no idea.
ISP shared photos on their Facebook post of the realistic looking bags of candy. The photos they shared were recently seized by a trooper for having edibles in them. They appear to look like ‘Starburst’ and ‘Skittles’. The only difference is the word ‘medicated’. You have to look very closely to see ‘Medicated’ printed on the package.
Don’t just look for Starburst or Skittles packaging. Back in February, the Southwest Metro Drug Task Force found nearly 500 THC edibles made to look like Nerds Rope. Upon looking close, the label states “Medicated Nerds Rope” and lists the amount of THC per rope, according to KMSP.
Officers in northeast Alabama charge eight suspects in a marijuana case that involved edibles marketed as candy for kids. According to WDEF, the edibles were packaged to play off of popular children’s candy, like Sour Patch Kids and Nerd’s Ropes.
These are just a few incidents.
Parents, check your children’s candy and never assume all of the candy is safe.
