(Lafayette, Louisiana) - Spring has arrived in Louisiana, and because of the conditions in the area, much of south Louisiana is under a Red Flag Warning on March 20, 2025.

The warning has been issued for the area as a result of low humidity levels and high wind speeds.

Under this type of warning, you are encouraged to NOT burn anything in your yard or field. A fire can quickly spread under these conditions, and the last thing you want to do is put anyone's property in danger.

Much of south Louisiana is also very dry as we have not gotten a significant amount of rain in recent weeks, thus this too only makes the conditions favorable for a fire to spread quickly.

If you do need to burn anything on your property, hold off for a few days as the wind speeds will diminish in the days ahead, and rain will be moving into the area by the weekend, which will help prevent fires from spreading.

Again, avoid setting fires and if you see a fire in your area while we are under this Red Flag Warning, you should contact your local fire department immediately.

Here's a look at the extended forecast for Acadiana, and after the cold front passes through the area the winds should die and the rain chances will go up.

Again, as you can see here, the conditions in Louisiana on March 20, 2025, are not favorable for outdoor burning, so let's hold off on open fires for a day or two.
