Vermilion School Board President Resigns

The Vermilion Parish School Board met last night and perhaps the biggest piece of business brought up at the meeting was not scheduled on the agenda. That piece of business was an announcement by Board President Jean Broussard that he would be stepping down from his position on the board.

According to a story by KATC TV's Justice Henderson, health concerns figured into Broussard's surprise announcement. Although Broussard did suggest the decision to resign was something he had been contemplating for several weeks. Broussard must now send a copy of his letter of resignation to the Secretary of States office for approval.

In other VPSB business, the board decided to table ratification of Superintendent Jerome Puyau's contract. They also held discussions on the pros and cons of moving the district to a four day school week. There was no decision made regarding that issue at last night's meeting.

The Board also announced a special meeting set for May 23rd to discuss the option of a charter school in the parish. The next regularly scheduled meeting the Vermilion Parish School Board is on the calendar for next Wednesday, May, 15th.
