NEW IBERIA--Customers of the Bayou Teche Water System will be without water until further notice.

According to water system officials, the outage began at 8 a.m. Thursday. They say they were forced to shut off the system because water pressure fell below 15 pounds per square inch because of the effects of the hard freeze. They say shutting off water to customers will allow the water towers to refill and allow the system to regain a safe water pressure.

The Bayou Teche Water System is under a boil advisory immediately for any remaining water in pipes.

Bayou Teche Water Works services residents between St. Martinville and New Iberia and in the Loreauville area.
