In this video from KPLC in Lake Charles, Reporter Jillian Corder interviewed Lake Charles Police Deputy Chief Mark Kraus during a manhunt stemming from a 'shots fired' call.

At about 1:40 into the video, after Kraus explained why police were on the scene (it was a domestic disturbance), the reporter made a comment about police departments being "shaken up" after the recent shootings (Dallas, Baton Rouge).

Deputy Chief Kraus stopped the reporter and responded with a stern tone, reassuring her that the police are not scared to do their jobs.

"Let me be very clear about something about law enforcement" Kraus begins.  "We've heard over the national news that police officers are scared to do their job.  That's just not true.  This is what we do; we've signed up to do this so we want to do it" he says.  He continues: "What we want, more than anything, is for backing (from the) public.  We need support from our public now more than ever, at least in my time.  So, to chase bad guys with AK47s is not what we are scared of.  What we are scared of is the political fallout after something happens that is strictly driven by politics and not right and wrong."

The deputy chief went on to say that the men in his department are heroes to him and the chief of police.

Kudos to these officers for continuing to protect us; for answering the call, regardless of what, when, where, or who.

I am hoping that the "new" catchphrase that floods our world is "Back the Blue".

Don't get me wrong, I am not naive enough to think that there are no bad cops.  There are bad people in every profession; this is a given.  But we can not hold the actions of a few against the masses.

As for me and my family, we will continue to back the blue.
