More than 600 walkers representing local businesses, families, schools, and other organizations are expected to participate in the annual Acadiana Walk to Cure Diabetes, on March 2, 2013 at River Ranch – Town Square. The Louisiana Chapter of JDRF has set a fundraising goal of more than $77,000.00, which will fund research toward preventing, better treating, and curing type 1 diabetes (TID) and its complications.
The Walk to Cure Diabetes is expected to draw an enthusiastic crowd of all ages, driven to support a great cause while enjoying an event that includes entertainment by the Michot Courville Band, space walks, face-painting and great food. On-site registration begins at 8:00 a.m. at Town Square in River Ranch. The entire walk will be approximately 2 miles long, starting and ending at Town Square in River Ranch.

“JDRF is truly grateful for the support of the River Ranch Community,” said Abby Hamilton, Executive Director of the Louisiana Chapter of JDRF. ‘Type 1 Diabetes is a disease that affects as many as 3 million Americans, and it is through the help and dedication of our supporters that JDRF is able to fund the research to develop better treatments and one day a cure for those people and their families.”
JDRF is the leading global organization focused on type 1 diabetes research. The goal of JDRF research is to improve the lives of all persons affected by TID by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing TID. More than 80 percent of JDRF’s expenditures directly support research and research-related education.
JDRF Walks are held in more than 200 cities worldwide. Nearly 900,000 people nationally walked last year and raised $86 million for research towards curing, preventing, and treating TID and its complications.
