Lafayette Businessman Seen Running in Pelican Costume
A Lafayette businessman is running for a great cause, and now he's caught the attention of many drivers in the city because he's running in a pelican costume.
Several listeners have asked us why a man has been running along Camellia Blvd. in Lafayette. Now we know who he is and why he's doing it.
The owners of Pelican Roofing are running a 5K every day for 30 days, and it's all to raise awareness about one cancer patient.
The local roofing company learned of Rachel Steen's situation, and they are now stepping up to raise funds for her so that she can have reconstructive surgery after her battle with cancer.
According to the "Run With Roofus" website, Steen, who is a single mother, needs to have reconstructive surgery to repair her palate and a portion of her nose following a surgery to remove the cancer.
Unfortunately, her insurance will not pay for the reconstructive surgery being they see it as a "cosmetic" issue. That's where the Lafayette roofing company steps in, and now they are raising money to help Rachel.
The goal of the gentleman running each morning in Lafayette is to raise $19,000, and you can donate to the cause by clicking HERE.
Pelican Roofing says:
"We call on the community to join us in this heartfelt effort. Your support can help restore not just Rachel’s speech but also her ability to lead a more normal life. Every donation counts and brings Rachel closer to recovery and hope."
So, if you see a man in a pelican costume running along Camellia Blvd in Lafayette, it's one of the owners of Pelican Roofing and he's running in hope that you join. their mission to help a local mother during her journey.
