‘Jessica Jones’ Officially Renewed for Season 3
Marvel’s Jessica Jones is already back on the beat. One month after Season 2’s premiere, Netflix confirms a third season of the hard-drinking P.I. will hit the streaming service, so what does it mean for The Defenders?
The serious famously made fans wait for its first renewal announcement, and only premiered Jessica Jones Season 2 after The Defenders had run its course. Season 3 of Jessica Jones will presumably follow Luke Cage Season 2 this summer, Daredevil Season 3 later this year, Iron Fist Season 2 and The Punisher Season 2 in 2019. It was Krysten Ritter herself who cast doubt on a second team-up miniseries for The Defenders, leaving the overall franchise’s future somewhat unclear.
Season 2 certainly left off with a third year in mind, as – spoiler alert – Jeri Hogarth (Carrie-Anne Moss) left to start her own law firm, and Trish (Rachael Taylor) seemingly gained abilities to put her in line with comic alter-ego Hellcat. Unclear is if showrunner Melissa Rosenberg is confirmed to return, or if Season 3 will follow Season 2’s lead with an all-female director lineup.
If Jessica Jones Season 3 indeed premieres in 2019, it may find itself in direct competition with Disney’s new streaming service, which is likely to become the exclusive home of new Marvel series going forward. We’ll hopefully hear more of the overall plan before long, but where might Jessica take us in Season 3?
