Thanksgiving Day is quickly approaching and while I am very excited for the food part of the day I am also excited to see the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this year.
Now that the world is starting to get back to a little bit of normalcy after the covid-19 pandemic I can’t wait to watch this timeless tradition with my children on Thanksgiving morning. Another exciting part of this tradition is that Louisiana will have an official state float in the parade this year.

It was reported in October that Louisiana would have a state float in the parade this year. And like many of you, I asked how I could watch the parade this year.

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will air on the following NBC affiliates across the state:
WDSU on channel 6 in New Orleans
WVLA on channel 33 in Baton Rouge
KLAF on channel 46 in Lafayette
The parade will also be live-streamed on Peacock, NBC's streaming platform.
Louisiana’s state float is a 60-foot “Celebration Gator” and is the longest float that will participate in the parade. Louisiana officials are spending $1.375 million to have the float take part in the parade for the next three years.

The goal is to attract more tourists to Louisiana, officials said. "When we come out of COVID, we are competing against every state," said Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser, who oversees Louisiana's tourism efforts.

According to state officials, Jon Batiste will perform on the float during the parade. Jon Batiste Batiste is a graduate of St. Augustine High School and the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts. Along with Jon Batiste, Macy’s employees will also ride the gator float during the parade.

Now, unlike Mardi Gras participants in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade don’t throw anything to onlookers. Participants will simply wave to the people who have lined the streets of New York City for the parade.
