It's possible to enjoy chips and dip without blowing your diet.

Today is National Chip & Dip Day, one of those food combinations everyone loves. That is, if you're not trying to keep your weight down and stay healthy. While the dip can be a problem  when it comes to calories, the biggest offender is the chips...but they don't have to be.

One alternative to potato or bread - based chips is making cheese chips. I've tried these at home and they're delicious. Just be sure to place them on a paper towel to absorb the excess grease.There are also tons of vegetable - based chips out there. These were rated the healthiest by Greatist.com.

When it comes to dips, avoiding heavy creams and fat is the key. Here's a list of light dips that can be easily made. You can also make your favorite dips with fat - free or light ingredients. Fat - free yogurt is a great alternative to sour cream in most dip recipes.

No matter how you celebrate National Chip & Dip Day, just be sure you don't double - dip!
