According to the Catholic Herald, Catholic schools in England have been asked to drop the words "Mother" and "Father" from admissions forms.

The request comes after a government ruling said the terms could be too restrictive.

The ruling was reached after a complaint was made at a primary Catholic school, stating that the words "Mother" and "Father" discriminated against "non-traditional" parents (step, divorced, gay).

According to the report, many schools have already replaced the terms with "Parent 1" and "Parent 2".
