(Carencro, Louisiana) - The Kiwanis Club of Carencro has announced on social media that they are closing their local food pantry.

Food pantries can be found in several communities across Acadiana and are designed to assist those in need. Sadly, not only do some take advantage of the food left for those people, but others also vandalize the property.

According to the social media post, which you willl see below, the Kiwanis Club has decided to close its pantry in the downtown Carencro area after it was vandalized on several occasions.

While the decision to close the food pantry was difficult, the club has announced that it is actively seeking other ways to support those in the community who may need assistance.

In a time when so many people need help, it's sad to learn that there are still people out there who vandalize something designed to help people in their own community. We have to be better than that.

Where to Get Food in Acadiana

Now, for those who are in need of food, the FoodNet Food Bank is still open at 403 Ambassador Caffery Parkway, Scott, LA.

Plus, the Second Harvest Food Bank at 215 East Pinhook St is there for those who need assistance when it comes to food.

Foodies of Lafayette have the Lafayette Community Fridge at 2905 East Simcoe St., right next to McMillan's Pub. Look for the McMillan's Pub sign; the fridge is adjacent to the building.

I did speak to someone who was on the committee for the food pantry in Carencro, and he told me that those who used the pantry for food were very thankful for what was left for them, and it hurts to see it go away, but brighter days of serving the people in their community are to come.

Piece of Cake Lafayette recently shared some Louisiana-themed cakes on their social media page, and these caught our eye. We all know that many here in South Louisiana love crawfish and Michelod Ultra, and it's no mistake that these cakes showed up at wedding venues recently.

We think you'll appreciate the themes and details put into these amazing cakes, which truly reflect our culture here in Louisiana.
