(Lafayette, Louisiana) - Trading cards have made an enormous comeback, and sadly, one of the big box stores has elected to stop selling them in stores.

Look, it's no secret that people are stealing in stores these days, so much so that you may have noticed more and more products are now locked in cases, and you often have to ask for assistance to get what you want.

Sadly, that is the world we are in, and stores are doing what they have to do to protect their merchandise from would-be thieves. For example, many games and other electronic devices are kept under lock and key to prevent theft.

I bring this up because I was looking for something at a Walmart store in Lafayette, Louisiana, and I knew where it was located. Still, when I walked up to the section of the store where they had been placed for years, the product that I was looking for was nowhere to be found.

Fortunately, an associate was nearby, so I approached her and asked where the trading cards were in the store. The moment the woman, who appeared to be a store manager, looked up at me, I knew something was wrong.

After a short pause, the associate told me, with a look of disgust on her face, that they no longer had trading cards on the shelves at Walmart, and before I could ask why, she informed me that the store elected to remove trading cards from the shelves because people were allegedly stealing them.

The Walmart store employee further explained that customers were opening the card packets in hopes of finding the "good cards" and then leave the store without paying for the cards they opened. Of course, the store could not sell the packets opened by thieves, and they were forced to take the loss.

Apparently, this happened so much at the Walmart store I was in that they have decided to yank trading cards from its shelves. I checked online, and trading cards are available for purchase there, but not in the store.

So, if you visit a Walmart store soon and you are looking for trading cards, you may not find them on the shelves and its all lbecause thieves were opening the cards so much and taking waht they wanted that the store has elected to cut its loss by not putting the cards out for sale.

Again, this is the world we are in, and, sadly, thieves know that the penalties for shoplifting are minimal and that they do not fear the consequences. And while thieves may get away with their egregious actions, we all know they end up on Santa's "Naughty List," and you know what that means.
