(Lafayette, Louisiana) - On a rainy day when the kids are out of school or over the weekend, they can get very bored or very anxious while indoors. However, there are a few places you can bring them for some indoor fun.

Just a couple of days ago, it was storming, and our daughter and her friends were getting very anxious in the house, so we looked up places to take them to help them release some of their built-up energy.

You know that on any given day, it can storm in South Louisiana, so you may want to keep these places in mind when your kids get "cabin fever" as the rain comes down.

Let's start with the Children's Museum of Acadiana in Downtown Lafayette. It is located at 201 E. Congress St., and there is plenty to do for younger kids. They are closed on Mondays but open the rest of the week, including weekends.

Next, if you have a teenager who gets bored on rainy day(s), Surge Entertainment is another great place to entertain your kids. This venue is geared more toward older kids, and it is a great place for friends to meet up when they are bored and can't be outdoors.

Surge is located at 2723 West Pinhook Rd. in Lafayette.

If you want to relive a part of your childhood, you can always bring your kids to the Acadiana Mall on a stormy day and walk through the business, and perhaps even build things. For the smaller kids, Build-A-Bear is a great place to go when they are bored and can't play outside.

Shopping is always fun, and what teenager doesn't like shopping?

Is there anything better than a good movie on a rainy day? Often when we are at the beach, on a rainy day, we resort to the theater to relax, and you can too. Grab a soda and popcorn, then kick back when it's storming outside in Acadiana.

One of our favorite places to visit on any given day, even when it isn't raining, is Candyland Cottage. There are plenty of treats to choose from, and the nostalgia here will even take you back to your childhood. It is also Christmas 365 days a year.

You can find Cangdyland Cottage locations in Scott and Rayne, Louisiana.

Planet Ice is another great place to be, not only on a rainy day, but when it is scorching hot outdoors. We recently took the kids there on a stormy day, and they all returned with much less pent-up energy.

Ice skating is a great exercise and gets the kids moving, and the snack bar there is great! Planet Ice is located at 4317 Johnston St. in Lafayette. And no, you don't have to be a professional skater to enjoy your visit here.

Lastly, Acadiana Lanes is a must-visit when the clouds open up over Acadiana. Not only are there many bowling lanes available there, but the game room and laser tag room are great.

It is affordable, and the food here is really good. Hint, get the pizza or burgers with an Hebert's Meat patty on it. You can find Acadiana Lanes at 3227 Ambassador Caffery.
