The Krewe of Muses Says the Shoe Fits for Mardi Gras

We all know shoes are the way to a woman's heart. In New Orleans, the Krewe of Muses says the shoe fits for Mardi Gras.  Can you say Brilliant? The Krewe of Muses is the first all-female Mardi Gras Krewe to roll at night in uptown New Orleans. They were founded in 2000. For the debut parade, charter member, Nicola Wolf, came up with the idea to decorate a few shoes as mementos to give to her friends. The following year, another member decided to do the same thing and of course, it took off from there. They strive to have the most entertaining parade and have the most unique throws. Muses has grown their krewe to include over 1,500 members since 2001. If you’re wondering what Muses means, the Muses are the nine daughters of Zeus in Greek mythology.  In Olympus, a festivity wasn’t complete without their joyful presence and their inspiration for fine art. We all know that New Orleans is cultural and artistic, which is why they carry that as their vision, by celebrating the art and culture through their whimsical and glittery custom-decorated shoes. The shoes they throw are like gold at the parade because each one is a one-of-a-kind piece of art.  If you’re lucky enough to get one, you should proudly display it in your home or office.  Many people attend the parade on a mission to add to their collection of shoes. This parade is one of the Carnival's most popular parades because of its dazzling floats and humorous themes.  The iconic shoe float carries the honorary muse, which is usually a celebrity. The Krewe of Muses has created The Shoes for Charity program, where they donate decorated Musses shoes to charity organizations for raffle or auction prizes. The Krewe of Muses parade is on the Thursday before Mardi Gras at 6:30 pm. That puts the parade on February 20th for 2020.
