Scott Business Owner Hands Out Bikes From Lafayette Mardi Gras Float
(Lafayette, Louisiana) - The "Bead King" lived up to his promise this Mardi Gras season in Lafayette as he was seen handing bikes out to kids and parents during a recent parade.
Craig Spadoni, owner of Bead Busters in Scott, told us in an interview that he planned to hand out bikes to kids along the Mardi Gras parade route in Lafayette, and he delivered.
The business owner had worked tirelessly loading floats for weeks, so on Mardi Gras day, it was his turn to have some fun, and he did, riding in King Gabriel's parade in Lafayette.
Craig is a friend of the family, and he did his best to get a bike to us when he saw us stationed on Johnston St. on Mardi Gras Day. Here's the video of him attempting to get a bike to us.
In a separate video shared by Julie Broussard on Craig Spadoni's Facebook page, you see a man jump the barricade to retrieve the bike Craig was gifting him, and then more throws came from the "Bead King" toward the kids.
While we never encourage anyone to jump a barricade during a parade, we are just glad that the man got the bike from the float and that Craig didn't have to toss it from the float, not that he would have anyway.
Here's the moment when one of several bikes was handed to someone in Lafayette for Mardi Gras 20026. Nice job.
As for next year, The Bead King promises more bikes and other throws that you may least expect. I am told that he may have TVs, more bikes, Air Fryers, and even toasters to hand out from his float. Therefore, if you're looking for any of the above, hold off, and the Bead King may have you covered for Mardi Gras in 2027.
Let me note here that Craig did tell us the new trend for floats is to include various items, and perhaps that is why we saw some in New Orleans toss TVs and Air Fryers from floats.
Are Mardi Gras beads being replaced by bikes and televisions? Only time will tell.
As for the Bead King, like Santa Claus after Christmas, he needed a nap too.
Oh, and here's the Bead King one more time, taking a "nap" as the Independent Parade rolls past him. Check out the sign on the float going past him, coincidence?
