Take Flour In The Face For #TeamLane [VIDEO]
On April 24, 2017, 7th grader Lane Begnaud was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, an aggressive bone cancer that has now spread to his lungs. He was 11-years-old when he was diagnosed. Now his friends and family need your help, take the #TeamLane Flour In The Face Challenge. Lane's mother Erin talks about Lane, their family, how cancer has changed their lives and how they need your help.
We are your average, hardworking family. We have 2 beautiful boys who are 8 and 12. April 24th was the day that changed our lives forever. My son Lane, who was 11 at the time was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. The next day we learned it was also in his lungs. He was a healthy 11 year old that had no signs of an illness. His leg was hurting, we figured he was experiencing growing pains but took him to his Pediatrician to have him examined to be on the safe side. Our world stopped but, sped up at the same time. There are so many layers to cancer. We are in the hospital an average of 4 days a week for chemotherapy. Lane needs blood and platelet transfusions. We commute 4 hours to Tulane for surgeries and Orthopedic appointments on a regular basis. Health insurance that we pay faithfully each month doesn't cover some major medications and necessary treatments. There are stacks of medical bills that we receive almost on a daily basis. My husband and I are self employed and this has been a financial nightmare. We still work when we can, often taking shifts at the hospital so one of us can work for a few hours. This will be at least a year long journey for us. Lane is so strong and brave, he is an amazing kid. His light still shines, even on his darkest days. - Erin Begnaud
You never expect that you are going to need things, you give because it is the right thing to do --it is innate. You never expect that you are going to have to ask for anything in return. Early on we realized that this is much bigger than the two of us -- our friends, our family, strangers that we've never met before. - Erin Begnaud
