A 15-year-old juvenile is now in the Lafayette Parish Juvenile Detention Home after a 17-year-old juvenile died in a shooting that happened on Lofton Street in the Opelousas area on September 6th of 2020.

St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office spokesman Deputy Chief Eddie Thibodeaux says in a press release that the 17-year-old and an adult male began shooting for unknown reasons. Thibodeaux says the 15-year-old shot back, striking the 17-year-old in the neck area. Thibodeaux says the juvenile denied having the firearm to questioning detectives and said that he and his four friends were running down Lofton Street when shots were fired in their direction. But, investigators say that wasn't true.

"Upon further investigation, it was determined that the juvenile did have a firearm in the front waistband of his pants and was observed shooting at the 17-year-old and the adult male," says Thibodeaux in the press release.
