Robert Schuller, founder of the famous Crystal Cathedral has passed away. Schuller began preaching from a concession stand at a drive in movie theater in the 1950s. He launched his weekly "Hour of Power" in 1970. Schuller built the Crystal Cathedral in 1980. It featured a 2,800 seat sanctuary. At its peak the "Hour of Power" reached more than 20 million viewers in 180 countries. Schuller differed from many other televangelists in that his message was one of redemption rather than the "fire and brimstone" embraced by fundamentalists. AP reports, Schuller passed away Thursday from cancer of the esophagus. He was 88.
