New Orleans Mayor Cantrell Orders Proof of Vaccination

As expected, New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell has followed the actions of several other metropolitan areas in the U.S. by requiring proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test (within 72 hours) to enter any indoor activity in the New Orleans metro with large crowds.

Mayor Cantrell, after consulting with New Orleans Health Department Director Dr. Jennifer Avegno, made the announcement Thursday afternoon.

Covid-19 has its teeth sunken deep into the life thread of southeast Louisiana right now as hospitals are overflowing with COVID cases. The mayor feels this is the first step in doing what's best to keep the people of New Orleans safe.

Proof of Vaccine

LA Wallet App SMART Health Card

An original, digital photograph or photocopy of CDC Vaccination Card (both sides)

An official vaccine record issued by another state, a foreign nation or the WHO

Negative PCR Test

Physical or electronic test results from a PCR COVID-19 test indicating negative results within the past 72 hours.

Antigen tests will NOT be accepted.

Vaccine or Negative PCR Test Required

Indoor dining and bars.

Indoor gyms and fitness classes.

Indoor entertainment and Performance Spaces

Certain Large Outdoor Events.

Mayor Cantrell's upgraded COVID-19 guidelines will take effect on August 16, 2021.

Other American cities with the proof of vaccine or 72 hour PCR test requirements include San Francisco and New York City. Los Angeles will be making a similar announcement soon.
