The man behind the wheel of a Dodge pickup truck that caused an August crash killing two people in St. Landry Parish is now charged with two counts of negligent homicide.  Trooper Thomas Gossen says 48-year-old Michael Guidry crossed the center line, striking the victims’ vehicle during early morning hours.

“Troopers were able to determine that Michael Shane Guidry was negligent in the cause of the crash that occurred on August 25th.  After the blood samples returned from the crime lab, a warrant was obtained for his arrest,” said Gossen.

Gossen says wrecks that claim the life of a young child are compounded in tragedy.

“While all the fatalities are tragic, this one was extremely tragic in the fact that a two-year-old lost her life, along with the 35-year-old mother.  Also injured in the crash was the 16-year-old sister,” said Gossen.

Gossen says this is another reminder for motorists to make smart decisions and not get behind the wheel when inebriated.

“We just, again, want to remind motorists that driving impaired will not be tolerated and we are going to do everything we can to enforce those laws as strictly and as firmly as we can to keep everyone safe,” said Gossen.

Guidry also faces charges of vehicular negligent injuring, improper lane usage, and no seat belt.
