Local McDonald’s Donates ‘Smile’ Mask Proceeds

A local McDonald's management company has made a donation of proceeds realized from the sale of "Smile" face masks.

Denise and Larry Miller, owners of several McDonald's restaurants in Acadiana, are the individuals responsible for this brilliant idea.

The masks are red with the imprint of a yellow "smile", a design obviously inspired by the company's famous "Happy Meal" box.

The idea came after the Millers saw the expense of providing disposable masks for their employees. Instead of disposable masks, they decided to look into getting reusable masks to save money and minimize waste. When they reached out to a supplier, they were offered the opportunity to have an image imprinted on the masks. They decided to spread cheer by putting a permanent smile on anyone who wore the masks.

After the masks arrived and were put into use, so many people asked "how do I get one of those masks?" that the Millers decided to capitalize on the opportunity. The answer became:

Raising money for the Ronald McDonald House is a very noble endeavor: the Ronald McDonald House provides assistance to the families of children who are hospitalized or are going through treatment. They provide housing and food for the families at no cost to those families.

The Millers traveled to New Orleans this week to present a check for $1000, all monies realized from the sale of the masks.
