Local Celebrities That Could Easily Be The Next Governor of Louisiana
(Baton Rouge, Louisiana) - Louisiana is rich in culture, but we are always blessed to have so many talented people from the "Bayou State."
Unlike some other states, we cherish our local celebrities, and in a recent conversation at work, we started talking about local and state celebrities who could probably get a lot of votes if they ever decided to run for Governor in Louisiana.
Do we think that they would win? Maybe they would, or perhaps they wouldn't, but we can almost guarantee that these celebrities would get more votes than some expect.
So, let's take a look at the list of local celebrities who could possibly make a run to be governor of our great state.
Let's start with a South Louisiana favorite, Wayne Toups. He has a HUGE following not only in our area, but across the state, and I bet his fans would show up to the polls if his name were ever on the ballot.
All that Toups would have to promise is a free concert once a month at the State Capitol, and fans would be more than willing to cast their vote for this Grammy-winning artist.
Next, let's stick with music and another artist. Louisiana loves Lauren Daigle, and there's no doubt that her massive following here would vote for her if she ever ran for office.
Like Wayne Toups, all that Lauren would have to promise is a few free concerts if she is elected, and her fans would line up at the polls on election day.
The next local celebrity who could easily get votes if he ran for governor in Louisiana is Shaquille O'Neal. While he may not be from Louisiana, Shaq calls Louisiana "home" even long after his playing days at LSU.
After all, anytime Shaq is in Acadiana or Louisiana, fans flock to him for photos, and there's no doubt that the Big Man would get THOUSANDS of votes if he put his name on the ballot. I should note here that it would be great to see Shaq stand up at the podium and address lawmakers in Baton Rouge.
Another sports figure I know who could run for Governor in Baton Rouge is Drew Brees. Not only does he have the look and temperament of an elected official, but Drew still has the love of the "Who Dat Nation" behind him.
Of all that we will list here, Brees may have the best chance out of all the local celebrities ever to be elected to an office, and that's no joke. Governor Drew sounds good.
Look, people in Louisiana love to party and dance, and there's no one better at getting people to dance than the "Line Dance King" himself, Cupid. Not only is our friend from Lafayette known worldwide, but people here love him for his music and kindness.
I think if Cupid were Governor here, he'd clean house and restore honesty to Louisiana politics. And yes, I bet every Friday if Cupid were governor, we'd have a line dance party somewhere in this great state.
Dustin Poirier makes the list of local celebrities who could be our state's Governor because he has the support and love of people in Louisiana. We saw how much support Dustin received during his final fights, and his generosity has not gone unnoticed.
Like Shaq, I think he'd be well-respected in Baton Rouge; after all, who would want to get into an argument with this man? Nope.
LSU Women's Basketball Coach Kim Mulkey is another celebrity who could easily be Louisiana's Governor. She is from Louisiana, and her love for our state ranks among the best.
We've seen how passionate Coach Mulkey is on the sidelines. Imagine that passion when trying to improve our state. If Kim Mulkey were ever the Governor of Louisiana, a lot of broken things would be fixed fast.
Then there's Sammy Kershaw. This Louisiana artist dipped his toes into the political world in the past; thus, we know he has the "itch" to enter it, and I think he'd be a great Ambassador for Louisiana.
I feel llike if Kershaw were in the Governor's mansion in Baton Rouge, it would have an "old school" feel, and things woulld get done. Like the other artists here, he'd shock many with the number of votes he'd get on election day.
Louisiana loves LSU, and Louisiana loves Coach Ed Orgeron. Sure, his tenure at LSU did not end well, but he brought LSU a National Championship, and fans have not forgotten it.
Even after all the turmoil in his final days at LSU, many fans wanted him back after Brian Kelly was fired, and that speaks volumes about his popularity in Louisiana.
All that this Louisiana legend would have to say on his campaign trail is, "Geaux Louisiana" in that raspy voice of his, and he'd WALK into the office.
Lastly, Gayle Benson could easily make a run for the office. Not only does she understand business and have many connections beyond just Louisiana, but people here also love her for her kindness and generosity.
One of her weaknesses could be her strengths in the political world: loyalty. This woman has been so loyal to her employees and the state that many would vote for her because they know she would ALWAYS put Louisiana first, and that speaks volumes when voters decide to vote for her in any election.
Governor Benson has a nice ring to it.
