The 3rd Annual Louisiana J.A.M. will bring together some well-known musical acts Saturday, May 11, all to help raise money for the Affiliated Blind of Louisiana, Inc. in Lafayette.

The fun begins at 10:00 a.m. at their location on 409 West St. Mary Boulevard and lasts until 10:30 p.m. D.L. Menard & Jambalaya will take the stage at noon, with performances by Steve Adams & Friends, Chubby Carrier & the Bayou Swamp Band, Lil' Band O' Gold and Richard LeBouef & Two Step to follow.

"We want everybody in Acadiana to come have fun with us!" says spokesperson Chyvonne Blanchard. "It's really a great way to relax and enjoy yourself...It's really just a nice area and I think everybody will be surprised when they come check it out." She also reminds everyone to bring their lawn chairs and "get set up under the trees."

And having the event this Saturday was timely in two ways, says Blanchard. First off, this event is happening the Saturday after Festival International and the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival, two very well-known festivals not just here in Acadiana but around the world. But secondly, Louisiana J.A.M. is happening the day before Mother's Day.

"We're going to have some great arts & crafts vendor out there so do your Mother's Day shopping or bring your mom," says Blanchard.

Their theme for this year's event is: "Great Louisiana Music For A Great Louisiana Cause." According to Blanchard, Affiliated Blind was the first rehab training center for the blind and the deaf-blind in Louisiana.

"All of our great Louisiana musicians have come together to support this Louisiana cause. We're just really proud of what we do and we want to teach everybody in Acadiana more about what we do."

Blanchard says a booth will be set up at the event so you can find out more information about the services provided by Affiliated Blind.

Admission to Louisiana J.A.M. is $5.00.
