Shoeboxes for Seniors is a great way to share Christmas spirit with a senior citizen who may not have any visitors or presents this Christmas. This simple little box makes a huge impact on a senior. KTDY, The Blake Assisted Living and Memory Care Community, and Cajun Area Agency On Aging are collecting shoeboxes filled with items useful to seniors in the Acadiana area to help aging citizens get a special treat this holiday. But we can't do it without your help. This morning, Kim St.Blanc with The Blake and Lynda Southard with Cajun Area Agency on Aging joined Jaycee and me to give us all the details.

You can use a shoebox, or you can pick up a plastic box that is the same size as a regular shoebox. Fill the box with some of the recommended items listed below. There are restrictions as to what can be given to residents at a nursing home. So, today I am sharing a list of nursing home care package ideas, so you are ready to help, if you feel inclined to do so. Each filled box should only cost around $10 with items found at a dollar store. Please remember not to wrap your boxes as they do have to check the boxes before they are delivered. It is encouraged to decorate it, but please do not wrap the box. If you make one specifically for a man or a woman, just indicate the gender on the outside of the box. It's really nice to add a personalized note or a Christmas card in the box. It makes it even more special. This would be a great idea to get the children involved with Thanksgiving Day.
