Lafayette native Jamie Duplechine in competing in Des Moines, IA this week for the title of Ms. Wheelchair America 2016. Jameie describes herself as loyal, vibrant and joyful, and is the reigning Ms. Wheelchair Louisiana 2015. She is participating in intensive personal interviews and workshops during the week - long event, which culminates in a night of platform speeches tonight and the crowning of the new National titleholder tomorrow, August 1, 2015.

Jamie will spend the next year traveling across America to break barriers faced by people with disabilities if crowned Ms. Wheelchair 2016. Despite a pageant format, physical beauty is not a consideration. Twenty - five contestants will be judged on their advocacy work, personal interview, platform speeches and on-stage interviews.
