Lafayette Police Respond to Individual Threatening to Jump From Overpass
Lafayette Police responded to a man threatening to jump from the Ambassador Caffery overpass Thursday afternoon.
The major roadway and overpass in Lafayette were immediately closed as police negotiated with the individual.
A large police presence was seen on and below the overpass in Lafayette.
An eyewitness tells us that the man, who appeared to be middle-aged, was seen just standing halfway up the overpass without a shirt on as traffic went by.
As of 5 pm on Thursday, January 25, 2024, LPD told us the overpass has been re-opened.
We do not have an update on the individual who was threatening to jump. However, eyewitnesses near the scene do tell us that they saw an ambulance rushing from the scene with a police escort.
