Rainy Weather Turns Lafayette Streets Into a Safety Nightmare, Say Drivers
(Lafayette, Louisiana)—On a rainy Saturday night, as I sat in the passenger seat of our vehicle, I couldn't help but notice that Lafayette has a major issue with some of its roadways.
As we were driving toward downtown Lafayette on Congress Street, I saw a few vehicles having trouble navigating along the roadway, and then it happened to us.
This night, my wife was driving across the slippery road in Lafayette, and she too started to drift into the lane parallel to us. As she noted, she couldn't see the lines on the road, and she was correct.
Some of the roads in Lafayette need to have the lines painted again, and it is most apparent at night. You can't see the lines on the road to help navigate you, and it's of concern.
In addition to the faded lines on the roads in the city, a lot of the reflectors are no longer present. When it snowed this past winter in Lafayette, crews used tractors to remove snow from the roadways, and many of the reflectors were scraped off the roads, too.
Now, I do recall the state of Louisiana saying that they would address the missing reflectors on the roads after the winter storm, but as we approach summer, many have not been replaced, and it is becoming difficult to travel some roads at night or when it's raining.

I share this bit of information with you so that you are aware of the road conditions on rainy nights, and in hopes that the city or state soon addresses the poor conditions on some of the roadways in Lafayette.
There's nothing scarier than drifting into another traffic lane as another vehicle approaches, and you do so because you can't see the lines on the road.
Here's a quick tutorial on how to change lanes while traveling.
