Members of the Lafayette Parish School Board set a deadline of March 20th for persons interested in filling a one-year interim term as Superintendent of Lafayette Parish Schools. That deadline has come and gone and because the box holding those applications won't be open until April 1 we don't know just who has applied for the job.

With one exception.

That exception is current Superintendent of Schools for Vermilion Parish, Jerome Puyau. The reason we know that Mr. Puyau is interested in the position is that he made his application public. Puyau has faced a lot of scrutiny over the past year or so from members of the Vermilion Parish School Board.

The Lafayette Schools are seeking a new superintendent to replace the retiring Donald Aguillard. Dr. Aguillard is scheduled to step down from the position on May 17th.

School board officials opted to fill Aguillard's position with an interim superintendent because of upcoming elections.  Following those elections in October, the newly seated board will then begin the search for a permanent replacement for Dr. Aguillard.
