
Lafayette, Louisiana School Board Members Making Employees Happy
(99.9 KTDY) - Officials with the Lafayette Parish School Board have approved a measure that gives a stipend to teachers and every Lafayette Parish School System employee.
The Lafayette Parish School Board Voted To Give Teachers And Others Money
The Lafayette Parish School System announced that the stipends are scheduled to be distributed in September, according to Tracy Wirtz, Communications Director for the system.
While teachers aren't receiving an across-the-board pay raise, they are certainly going to be getting a nice check in September.
Wirtz adds that the school system employees who will also be getting a stipend are those who are "full-time support personnel who receive benefits."

Teachers in the Lafayette Parish School System are scheduled to receive a stipend check in September in the amount of $2,000.

The state allotted $1,000, and the Lafayette Parish School Board members voted for an additional $1,000.
Officials say the one-time check is part of the Lafayette School Board and Lafayette School System's overall plan "to recruit, retain, and reward quality employees."

Lafayette Parish School Superintendent Francis Touchet says teachers and others who work in the school system deserve to receive a stipend because of how dedicated they are to their work, regardless of their specific role.
This stipend is a reflection of the value we place on every member of our team. From clerks to custodians to classroom teachers, it takes all of us working together to build thriving schools.
Toucher adds is thankful that the members of the Lafayette Parish School Board made this decision.
