For those in Acadiana who are fans of everything space related, be sure to set your watch as the International Space Station will be passing directly over Lafayette tonight. Don't be late, as the appearance will only last approximately seven minutes.

Before you get all of the details on tonight's appearance of the International Space Station, let me just say thank goodness for Rob Perillo. He is the Chief Meteorologist with our media partners at KATC-TV3 and always has an eye out for unique occurrences in the sky. He even recently spotted something really rare on the station's Power Doppler 3.

But tonight's unique occurrence will be flying high in the night sky as the International Space Station passes directly over Lafayette.

The last time the ISS passed over Acadiana was in November of 2021. That flyover lasted approximately four minutes, so tonight's event will last just a bit longer. At that time, the ISS had ten members on board. Now, there will be a group of thirteen astronauts passing overhead.

How to see the International Space Station from Acadiana

See the full details of tonight's flyover from our guy @robperillo on Twitter below.

So 6:08 p.m. CST is the ticket for you and the family to catch a glimpse of the International Space Station. No need to look any other direction but straight up, as the ISS will certainly be a unique sight in the night sky.

In my experience, the ISS moves rapidly and shines brighter than most other objects that can be seen up above. I make sure to get a glimpse every single time it passes, as I am a bit of a space nerd and have been most of my life.

Enjoy the sights, Acadiana!
