If your phone rings once, and the caller hangs up, the Louisiana Attorney General's office recommends you resist the temptation to return the call. Scammers are using automatic dialers to call mobile phones from outside the US. Recipients who return these calls reportedly get a recording, saying they've reached the operator, and asking the caller to hold. While the caller holds, they're being charged an exorbitant per minute charge for an international call. The majority of calls originate from various locations in the Caribbean. Users are warned to be particularly wary of calls from area codes 876, 809, 473, and 268.
