Good Samaritan Seen Assisting Sheriff’s Deputy in Lafayette
(Lafayette, Louisiana) - A good Samaritan was seen assisting a Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Deputy in 5 o'clock traffic, and he deserves to be recognized for his kindness.
On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, I was in traffic during drive time, and as I approached the busy intersection of Ambassador Caffery and Congress in Lafayette, I noticed a deputy's unit with its emergency lights on in one lane.
My first thought was that the deputy was responding to an accident near the intersection, but as I approached the police unit, I noticed that the deputy was assisting a motorist who had become stranded in traffic.
Someone's small SUV either died in traffic or the person ran out of gas, so the deputy stopped oncoming traffic and then proceeded to push the vehicle by himself as the driver of the SUV steered.
Then suddenly, I saw a man get out of his own vehicle, which he had parked behind the deputy's unit, and rush over to assist the deputy in pushing the car into a nearby parking lot.
While the deputy seemed to be making strides with his efforts to assist the stranded motorist, it was clear that he could use some assistance, and the man who jumped out of his own vehicle to help him had to have noticed that.
While I wish I could have assisted the deputy, I knew that my traffic light was about to turn green, and there was no way for me to park and exit my own vehicle, but one gentleman did, and he should be applauded for his efforts.
As the deputy and the good Samaritan walked back to their vehicles, it was clear that they were exhausted, having had to push the small SUV 20-30 yards and then uphill into the parking lot.

I was not able to get a photo of the man who assisted the deputy in Lafayette traffic, but I saw what you did and want to THANK YOU. We need more people in the world like you.
If you wish, please consider sharing this story with others on social media, in the hope that the man who risked his own safety in traffic will see it; he most certainly deserves to know that we appreciate his kindness and efforts.
