The community is invited to the annual Creole Culture Day on Sunday, June 12th from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at Vermilionville, a free event allowing the public to explore the history and evolution of the Creole community.

This year’s Creole Culture Day will focus on youth in culture and the activities planned for the day will include: cooking-related demonstrations such as open hearth cooking, black pot curing and how to prepare different Creole dishes; kids’ crafts and activities; Zydeco dance lessons, exhibits on “Inventions by African Americans” as well as “Slavery by Another Name” and more.

Three young Zydeco musicians (Cameron Lavanne, Ryan Perkins and Gerald Broussard, Jr.) will each play at set while backed by a house band, followed by a performance by Cedryl Ballou & the Zydeco Trendsetters. Other music-related events include performances by the Immaculate Heart of Mary Youth Choir and a Zydeco Jam led by Brandon Ledet, open for the public to join (all levels of talent and experience are welcome, beginner to professional). Various community groups whose goals are to promote the Creole culture will be on site for discussions and presentations, including C.R.E.O.L.E., Inc., the African American History Museum, the Creole Heritage Center and more.
