Another Spring Cooldown Coming for Louisiana
(Lafayette, Louisiana) - Spring is here, but that doesn't mean the cooler nights are completely gone for those in Acadiana.
Just a few days ago, as we entered Spring. Some in Acadiana woke up to frost on the ground as temperatures dropped into the mid-to-upper 30s, and there's another cooldown coming.
No, you won't have to worry about the flowers or tender vegetation you may have just planted in the flower beds or gardens, but don't put away the light jackets just yet. March is often the time when temperatures begin to warm up, as we saw this past weekend, but looking ahead, we have cooler nights to come.

The current 10-day forecast has a slight cool down coming by the weekend, so if you have plans outdoors, especially during the evening hours, it could be a bit cooler, and this may be a great time to burn some of the leftover firewood you may have from winter.
Temperatures during the day will be in the upper-70s and perhaps even the lower 80s, but once the sun sets this weekend, expect temperatures to dip into the mid-to-low 50s, which should make for a very pleasant evening outdoors.
Again, you won't have to worry about a frost with this latest cooldown, but it may just be cool enough this weekend, in the evening, to take out the gumbo pots once again.
After the slight cooldown this weekend, we may finally get some much-needed rain early next week. Which reminds me, if you are going to burn some of your firewood this weekend, once temperatures cool down a bit, make sure you do it in a fire pit.
It is very dry across South Louisiana, and even the smallest fire can spread quickly, so be very careful with open fires for now. If your parish declares a burn ban due to dry conditions, you should obey the warning.
Here's a look at the extended forecast, and notice the more pleasant evenings to come by the weekend. Let's just hope it's enough to discourage the mosquitoes from coming out for dinner once the sun begins to set.
