128 years ago - In 1892, the rules of "Basketball" were printed for the very first time.  They appeared in the "Triangle", a newspaper out of Springfield, Massachusetts.  Basketball originated in Springfield.

53 years ago - In 1967, the Green Bay Packers won the first Super Bowl.  The tickets were only $10.

53 years ago - In 1967, The Rolling Stones appeared on "The Ed Sullivan Show". Ed made them change the words to "Let's Spend the Night Together" to "Let's Spend Some Time Together".

46 years ago - In 1974, "Happy Days" premiered. It was on television 11 seasons.  "Happy Days" ended in 1984.

42 years ago - In 1978, two students at Florida State University were murdered in their sorority house.  Ted Bundy was later convicted and executed for the crime.

34 years ago - In 1986, Jimmy Dean was ordered to pay his brother,  Don, half a million dollars.  The judge agreed that Jimmy Dean had caused his brother mental anguish due to the family's feud over the business.

33 years ago - In 1987, Ray Bolger, the Scarecrow in "The Wizard of Oz", died.  Bolger had cancer, he was 83.

26 years ago - In 1994, singer/songwriter Harry Nilsson died at age 52.

 

11 years ago - In 2009, U.S. Airways pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger safely landed a jet in the Hudson River.

2 years ago - In 2018, Cranberries singer Dolores O'Riordan died of an accidental drowning.  She was 46.
