Vacation season is here and soon many will be heading towards their favorite beach or mountain range.

However, while away from your home, you need to keep a few things in mind. For example, don't forget to raise the thermostat in your home while away. There's no reason to have your house "cold" while there's no one there, and this will help save on your electric bill.

Moreover, you should also have a neighbor or family member check your mail and retrieve packages while you're away from home. If you're anticipating important documents in the mail or expensive deliveries while away, have someone lined up to get what is left at the door.

Now, let's get to what you SHOULD NOT do while on vacation and away from home. Sure, it is tempting to post great photos from your vacation on social media, but when you do, you are letting others know that you are away from your home and that may be inviting for someone to visit your home while you are not there.

And yes, people will take advantage of your property when you are not around.

So, you should snap as many photos as you desire while on vacation, but post them on social media when you return. And when you do post your photos, make it clear that you have returned and that the images were taken while you were away days or weeks ago.

I know this may sound petty to some, but in our day and age, you must be cautious about what and when you post on social media.

Have fun while away on vacation, but remember not to set yourself up while sitting on the beach or balcony.
