YouTube Bans David Duke
According to Fox News, YouTube has banned former Louisiana politician and white supremacist David Duke.
Duke, a former Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, has been described by the Anti-Defamation League as "perhaps America’s most well-known racist and anti-Semite".
After failed attempts at politics, David Duke was finally elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives (not the state's proudest moment) and served one short term. He then led several bids for political seats, from Governor to Senate to President, and failed every time. He then served a 15-month sentence at a federal prison for fraud.
David Duke is a devout Christian, Holocaust denier, white supremacist, segregationist, and an advocate for white separatism. And people in Louisiana voted for him.
According to Fox, Duke's channel wasn't the only one banned. YouTube has been under pressure for allowing hate speech on its platform, and the company, owned by Google, is finally taking action to remove some of the sources of that hate. David Duke, Richard Spencer, and American Renaissance, a monthly white supremacist online publication, have all been removed from YouTube.
Kudos to YouTube for beginning to skim the surface of removing hate speech from their platform. David Duke, admittedly, is low-hanging fruit and shouts his hate; most of the hate on YouTube is whispered. YouTube, it's time for you to grab a shovel and start digging.
