The MDA Summer Camp is coming up in two weeks, and you can help make certain that camp will be perfect this year by shopping from the MDA's Amazon Wishlist!

If you don't know about the MDA Summer Camp, it is one of the few times of the year that individuals with Muscular Dystrophy are on their own, without their family, without their nurses/attendants.  Each camper is assigned a counselor, and they are together for the whole week.

Camp does a few things for the campers and their families:

  • It gives the caregivers time for themselves.  Studies have shown that caregivers can develop what is known as "caregiver burnout".  It is important that the caregivers get breaks to keep themselves healthy so that they can more effectively care for others.
  • It gives the campers a chance to feel independent.
  • It breaks the "routine" of the rest of the year.
  • It gives the campers a chance to bond with other people affected by MD and make new friends
  • It gives the campers a chance to be kids for the week.

I visited the camp last year with the Cajun Harley Owner's Group, and helped officiate the football game.  To see the joy on those kids' faces was priceless!

Watch this short video, it shows how much the counselors care that the campers are having the times of their lives.

All of that brings me to this:  the camp is still in need of a few items.  Everything from board games to bullhorns, generators to video cameras, you can help by purchasing one of the items in your price range.

Consider clicking on this Amazon link and purchasing something for the camp.  Click the link and browse the items, and give until it helps!
