Shannon's family is full of avid readers, and they love the Harry Potter series. So much so that they not only have everything ever printed but have read through them several times each.

I haven't read the series, but I have heard mention of Butterbeer. Available at Hogsmeade, it (apparently) had a slight alcoholic content.

Over the holidays, Shannon's nephew Drew wanted to create a dessert, so he found a recipe for Butterbeer on the Delish website and had us help him make it.

Here's a quick look at what's in Butterbeer: sugar. HA! This stuff is sweet, but with butterscotch syrup and cream soda as the base, that's not surprising.

Add to that more sugar, heavy whipping cream, vanilla extract, butter and a lot of mixing, and in less than 20 minutes you'll have an alcohol-free Hogwarts-worthy vat of grog! (Okay, I made up that last part, I have no clue as to whether they even used those words in Harry Potter!)

Since it was a family event, we didn't look into which alcohol to add to make it a little more authentic, but I am sure that Butterscotch Schnaaps would do the trick!
