Toyota says they are recalling over a million vehicles, including more than 190,000 Prius hybrids in the United States. There is a wiring problem that could start a fire.  The Japanese automaker says a problem with an engine wiring harness caused a short, producing smoke, in one vehicle. The affected vehicles were built in Japan between June of 2015 and May 2018.

From Toyota:

For all involved vehicles, Toyota dealers will check the engine wire harness assembly. If a wire core is exposed, the engine wire harness assembly will be replaced with a new one that includes a protective sleeve.  If a wire core is not exposed, protective tape will be installed on the engine wire harness assembly. The repair will be performed at no cost to customers. All known owners will receive a notification by first class mail starting in late September.
