There was a very sad and somber announcement posted on the Town of Welsh Facebook page yesterday. The posting announced the news of the death of one of the community's longtime linemen.

According to a story posted on the KPLC website, Lyle Fontenot, a long-time worker for the Town of Welsh was working in a bucket truck on Cooper Street just north of the railroad tracks yesterday afternoon.

Other workers on the job site reported seeing Fontenot fall in the bucket and they brought him down immediately. Details on what exactly happened to cause the fatal accident are unclear at this time. However, the incident is still under investigation.

An online survey suggested that electrical line work was one of the 10 most dangerous jobs in America. The survey found that on average 30 to 50 out of every 100,000 line workers are killed annually in on the job incidents. Several thousand more sustain injuries while on the job each year as well.

Our thoughts and condolences to the Fontenot family and to the Town of Welsh.
