The Super Nintendo Classic Will Allegedly Be Available Later This Month

Nintendo says it will be available in stores, but they really mean eBay.

Nintendo released a brilliant product last year, the NES Class Edition or NES Mini. It was a smaller version of the original Nintendo Entertainment System that had 30 games pre - installed, two mini controllers, and HDMI capability for today's TVs. At $60, it was a pretty great deal for '80s kids who long ago lost track of their original NES or for those younger people who had never played the original NES.

The problem was that Nintendo didn't make enough, claiming that 'demand was greater than they anticipated.' Many fans and industry analysts think Nintendo knew exactly what they were doing by making fewer NES Classics so that the resulting buzz would boost sales of the Nintendo Switch. No matter the reason, the NES Classic is still unavailable for retail price in brick and mortar stores. If you have the cash, you can drop a few hundred bucks on it on eBay or Amazon.

A new holiday season is just around the corner, so it's no surprise that Nintendo is releasing a Super Nintendo Classic Edition. What's not surprising is that Nintendo is claiming that a 'significant amount of additional systems will be shipped to stores.' Translation: 'we're going to ship a few more than we did with the NES Classic, but we'll be sure it's nowhere near enough.' Why would they do this all over again? It's simple: this is the first holiday season for the Nintendo Switch, and since that was also hard to come by, Nintendo will get people excited over the SNES Classic while building new anticipation for the Switch over the holidays.

If you want one of these, you'll allegedly be able to pre-order them later this month, but pre-orders were not honored with the NES Classic last year, and many people were given refunds instead. Meanwhile, WalMart has canceled all SNES Classic pre-orders.
