Diets do not work.  Research from the Diabetes Council confirms that two out of every five people on a diet quit in the first 7 days.  Diets are tough to stick to, especially in South Louisiana.  So what if you could enjoy a tasty meal, already prepared, low in carbs high in taste and is relatively inexpensive?  And you don't have to weight for a box in the mail.  By the way, most people don't keep their subscriptions to mail order food either.

I have found a great tasting meal from Rouses Market #48 located at 6136 Johnston Street in Lafayette, near the new Moss Mercedes of Lafayette.  It's General TSO Chicken with Broccoli and General TSO Steak with broccoli.  Somedays it's steak, somedays chicken.  You'll find these delightful meals in the refrigerated deli case just to the right of the entrance as soon as you walk in.

The General TSO Chicken or Steak both with broccoli, has a lite TSO sauce on it but it's not too sweet and it's not enough to send the carb content through the roof.  Each dish also contains purple onions and colorful bell peppers.  That's it.

I also visited with Chief Michael, who brought out the box of TSO sauce, so we could read the ingredients, to see if there was Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) in the flavorful TSO sauce.  There is not.  Nor does the chicken, steak, broccoli or bell peppers contain MSG.

The General TSO Chicken or Steak will set you back about $8.50 for a large container which easily feeds two unless you're super hungry.  Each dish is packed with lean protein, fiber and lots of flavor.  Plus, you can eat each hot or cold.  I like both.

I'm not sure if the TSO Chicken or Steak is available at other locations of Rouses.  You may want to call ahead for availability.  If you need to feed a big group, you can also order each dish a day in advance and your meal will be ready for you to pick up the following day and guaranteed fresh.

Rouses on Johnston is open everyday 7:00 AM - 10:00 PM.  Call ahead, (337) 889-0040 to find out whether it's a chicken day or a steak day as they rotate these.  They are both delicious, you can't go wrong with either.  What a healthy way to lose weight and still enjoy great food.
