May 19, 2012 is a date that forever changed the family and friends of Mickey Shunick. That's the night she disappeared after hanging with some friends in downtown Lafayette.
The kidnapping and murder of Mickey Shunick made national headlines, and shook the Lafayette community like no event I've witnessed in 30 plus years of living here. The Lafayette City-Parish council has decided her memory will be preserved in the most fitting manner possible.
This is a video of the Ride of Silence that was held in Lafayette Louisiana on May 21st. Some of the video was shot from a drone, above the streets of Lafayette.
“We shouldn’t have to cower and hide inside. If we don’t feel safe, we should come together and make a change. I wish it didn’t take a tragedy like this for that to happen. I wish we could keep that going." -Jay Steiner
The Ride of Silence, a national ride that pays respects to victims of bicycle accidents and raises awareness of the "Share the Road" initiative, took to the streets of America last night.
Dateline NBC aired their story on the Mickey Shunick last night. If you missed any part of it, you can watch the episode, segment by segment, here, including a web exclusive clip, Brandon Scott Lavergne confessing to police.
